PT Central Proteina Prima Tbk (IDX: CPRO)

PT Central Proteina Prima Tbk (IDX: CPRO), widely known as CP Prima, is an Indonesian integrated aquaculture and food company with a strong position in shrimp feed, fish feed, hatchery operations, pet food, seafood products, and aquatic-health solutions. Investors are increasingly watching CPRO because its revenue continued to grow in 2025 and the company recently achieved an important sustainability milestone: its subsidiary became the first shrimp feed mill in Indonesia to receive Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Feed Certification.

1. Company Overview and Business Model

Company Name: PT Central Proteina Prima Tbk, commonly known as CP Prima.

Headquarters: The company's registered corporate office is at Treasury Tower, 8th Floor, District 8 SCBD Lot. 28, Jl. Jend. Sudirman Kav. 52–53, Senayan, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta 12190, Indonesia.

Listed Market and Ticker: CP Prima is listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) under the ticker CPRO. The company operates in the consumer staples/food production and aquaculture-related industries.

Establishment and Role

CP Prima was incorporated in April 1980 and has developed into an integrated aquaculture company. Its business covers shrimp hatcheries, shrimp and fish feed, pet food, processed seafood, aquatic animal health products, and related activities. The company also serves international markets, with exports reaching countries in Asia, North America, Europe, and other regions.

The company's integrated model is important because aquaculture production requires several interconnected inputs, including high-quality fry, feed, technical support, health products, and seafood processing. CP Prima participates in several stages of this value chain rather than depending on only one product category.

Revenue Structure

CP Prima generates revenue primarily by selling animal and aquaculture feed, seafood and processed food products, shrimp and fish fry, pet food, and aquatic-health products. Its business activities officially include shrimp hatcheries, shrimp and fish feed manufacturing, processed seafood, pet food, and aquatic-health products.

The company's feed business is particularly significant. CP Prima states that it has more than 850,000 tons per year of feed production capacity and describes itself as a market leader in aquaculture feed and pet food.

This diversified structure provides CPRO with multiple sources of revenue while also allowing the company to serve customers across different parts of the aquaculture ecosystem.

2. Main Products and Services: Core Competitive Advantages

Main Businesses

CP Prima's major business areas include:
* Shrimp feed
* Fish feed
* Shrimp hatcheries and fry
* Fish hatcheries
* Pet food
* Aquatic animal healthcare products
* Fresh and processed seafood
* Domestic and export markets

The company's official product portfolio includes shrimp feed, fish feed, pet food, probiotic products, food products, and shrimp fry.

Representative Products

Shrimp feed is one of the company's most important businesses. CP Prima states that it is the largest shrimp-feed producer in Indonesia, supported by specialized products, technical assistance, hatchery operations, and farmer-support programs.

Its product portfolio also includes fish feed and pet food, giving the company exposure to several animal-nutrition markets rather than relying exclusively on shrimp.

Differentiation

One of CP Prima's strongest competitive advantages is its integrated aquaculture ecosystem.

Rather than operating only as a feed manufacturer, the company combines feed production with hatcheries, technical support, aquatic-health products, seafood processing, and related farming activities. This can create cross-selling opportunities and strengthen relationships with farmers and distributors.

The company's technical capabilities are also important. CP Prima operates technical-partner and farmer-support programs designed to improve aquaculture practices and feed utilization.

Another differentiating factor is certification. In August 2026, CP Prima announced that its subsidiary, PT Centralpertiwi Bahari's Lampung shrimp feed mill, became the first shrimp feed mill in Indonesia to receive ASC Feed Certification. The certification covers production and storage of shrimp grow-out feed under the Mass Balance model.

This development could become increasingly relevant as seafood buyers, international retailers, and consumers place greater emphasis on traceability and responsible aquaculture.

3. Market Environment and Recent Trends

Industry Trends

The global aquaculture industry continues to benefit from long-term demand for seafood and protein. Aquaculture is increasingly important as wild-catch fisheries face biological and environmental constraints, while consumers and food companies seek reliable seafood supplies.

For CP Prima, Indonesia is particularly important because the country has extensive coastal resources and a significant shrimp-farming industry. Shrimp feed is a competitive market, however, with major domestic and international companies competing on product quality, pricing, technical support, distribution, and farmer relationships.

A 2024 Seafood Watch review cited estimates that CP Prima accounted for approximately 30% of Indonesia's shrimp-feed market, compared with roughly 12% each for several other major producers. The figures are based on 2023 market-share estimates and should therefore be treated as industry estimates rather than current company-reported market share.

Competition is also strong in the broader Indonesian animal-feed industry. Major competitors include PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk (IDX: CPIN), PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk (IDX: JPFA), and PT Malindo Feedmill Tbk (IDX: MAIN).

Recent Financial Performance

CPRO delivered a stronger full-year performance in 2025.

For the year ended December 31, 2025, revenue reached approximately Rp9.95 trillion, up from approximately Rp9.28 trillion in 2024, representing growth of about 7.2%. Net profit increased to approximately Rp423.7 billion, compared with approximately Rp320.0 billion in 2024, an increase of roughly 32.4%.

Full-year 2025 gross profit was approximately Rp2.0 trillion, while EBITDA was approximately Rp848.6 billion. The reported net margin was about 4.3%.

However, the trend changed during the first half of 2026.

For the six months ended June 30, 2026, CPRO recorded revenue of approximately Rp5.06 trillion, up 6.4% year over year from approximately Rp4.76 trillion. At the same time, net profit declined to approximately Rp192.4 billion, down 34.4% from Rp293.2 billion in the corresponding period of 2025. Gross profit fell 2.8% to approximately Rp950.5 billion, while EBITDA decreased 26.0% to approximately Rp366.7 billion.

The figures suggest that the main issue in early 2026 was not a lack of sales growth but pressure on profitability and margins.

As of June 30, 2026, CPRO reported total assets of approximately Rp7.20 trillion, equity of approximately Rp3.98 trillion, and short-term debt of approximately Rp1.51 trillion.

Another notable development is ongoing investment in production infrastructure. The company's recent activities and expansion indicate an effort to strengthen production capacity and broaden its food-related operations, although the returns from these investments will need to be monitored over time.

Recent Corporate Developments

CP Prima has made sustainability and international certification a visible part of its recent strategy. In July 2026, its Surabaya feed mill successfully renewed its Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification, covering areas such as feed safety, regulatory compliance, and health, safety and environmental practices.

More recently, the ASC Feed Certification achieved by its Lampung subsidiary in August 2026 strengthened its credentials in responsible aquaculture.

These developments could help CPRO compete for customers that require increasingly stringent sustainability and traceability standards.

Main Competitors

CPRO operates in a highly competitive environment. Important competitors include:

PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk (CPIN) — a major Indonesian animal-feed and poultry company with aquaculture exposure.

PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia Tbk (JPFA) — a diversified agribusiness company involved in feed, poultry, aquaculture, and other food-related businesses.

PT Malindo Feedmill Tbk (MAIN) — another listed Indonesian feed producer with exposure to animal nutrition.

International feed and aquaculture companies such as Cargill, De Heus, Grobest, and other regional producers also contribute to competitive pressure.

4. Recent Stock Price

As of September 10, 2026, CPRO closed at approximately Rp50 per share on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The stock had also closed at Rp50 on September 9, September 8, September 7, and September 4, showing an unusually narrow recent trading range.

The stock had traded at higher levels earlier in August. For example, CPRO closed at Rp53 on August 12, Rp52 on August 13, and Rp52 on August 14 before falling toward Rp50. On August 18 it closed at Rp51, and on August 20 it closed at Rp50 after trading as high as Rp51.

One notable feature of CPRO's recent price history is the combination of a low absolute share price and periods of very high trading volume. On August 20, 2026, more than 365 million shares changed hands, while the stock subsequently remained around Rp50.

The price therefore appears to be reflecting a combination of factors: continued profitability, slower earnings growth in 2026, margin pressure, relatively modest valuation, and substantial market liquidity considerations.

Investors should also remember that a low nominal share price does not automatically mean a stock is inexpensive. Market capitalization, earnings, cash flow, debt, profitability, and future growth expectations are more meaningful measures of valuation.

5. Investment Attractions and Risk Factors

Why CPRO May Attract Investors

1) Strong position in shrimp feed

CP Prima has established a significant position in Indonesia's shrimp-feed market. Its integrated capabilities and distribution network provide an important competitive foundation.

2) Integrated business model

The combination of feed, hatcheries, aquatic-health products, seafood, and pet food gives CPRO multiple business lines and allows it to participate in different parts of the aquaculture value chain.

3) 2025 profit growth

The company's 2025 revenue increased approximately 7.2%, while net profit increased approximately 32.4%. This demonstrates that CPRO was able to convert moderate sales growth into substantially higher earnings during that year.

4) Sustainability credentials

The 2026 BAP recertification and the recent ASC Feed Certification may strengthen the company's positioning with customers that increasingly require sustainable and traceable aquaculture supply chains.

5) Potential operating leverage

If feed demand improves and raw-material costs become more favorable, higher utilization of the company's production infrastructure could potentially improve margins.

Key Risks

1) Margin pressure

The biggest recent concern is that first-half 2026 revenue increased while net profit fell sharply. Six-month revenue rose 6.4%, but net profit declined 34.4%.

2) Raw-material costs

Feed manufacturing depends on commodities and nutritional ingredients whose prices can fluctuate. Rising input costs can squeeze margins if companies cannot pass higher costs to customers quickly.

3) Aquaculture disease risk

Shrimp and fish farming are vulnerable to disease, water-quality problems, weather conditions, and other biological risks. Such problems can reduce farmer demand for feed and affect the company's hatchery and seafood businesses.

4) Strong competition

CPRO competes against large, well-capitalized companies in animal nutrition and aquaculture. Competitive pricing and technological development can put pressure on margins.

5) Debt and financing costs

Although the company's financial position improved in some areas, interest expenses and debt remain important factors to monitor. At June 30, 2026, short-term debt stood at approximately Rp1.51 trillion, compared with cash of about Rp83.9 billion.

6) Stock liquidity and price behavior

The stock's prolonged trading around Rp50–Rp55 means investors should consider not only valuation but also liquidity, trading activity, and the possibility that price movements may not always immediately reflect changes in business fundamentals.

6. Conclusion

PT Central Proteina Prima Tbk is an interesting Indonesian aquaculture company because it combines a substantial shrimp-feed business with hatcheries, fish feed, pet food, seafood products, and aquatic-health solutions. Its integrated model and established market position provide a meaningful competitive foundation, while recent BAP and ASC certification achievements could strengthen its credibility in increasingly sustainability-conscious global markets.

The financial picture, however, is mixed. CPRO achieved strong improvement in 2025, with revenue rising to about Rp9.95 trillion and net profit reaching about Rp423.7 billion. In the first half of 2026, revenue continued to grow to Rp5.06 trillion, but net profit dropped 34.4% to approximately Rp192.4 billion.

In my view, the most important issue for CPRO going forward is whether management can turn revenue growth back into sustainable profit growth. If feed demand remains healthy, input-cost pressure moderates, and recent investments and sustainability initiatives generate stronger commercial opportunities, CPRO could have room for improvement. On the other hand, persistent margin compression, biological risks, competition, and financing costs could limit shareholder returns.

With CPRO trading around Rp50 per share as of September 10, 2026, the stock may appeal to investors interested in a small-cap Indonesian aquaculture and food company, but the recent earnings decline means the investment case should be evaluated carefully rather than based solely on the low nominal share price.
